Empowering Energy Efficiency in a Retail Chain: Integration, Centralization, and Standardization of Data

Control and monitoring systems with IoT sensors for centralized information use and decision-making.

Retail

An international supermarket chain with over 70 stores in Mexico is modernizing its operations to meet sustainability goals. This involves enhancing store efficiency through advanced monitoring and more effective energy system management.

In their quest for more efficient water and energy use, w implemented strategies involving the consolidation of data from various energy suppliers. Furthermore, detailed information is provided to teams regarding their system operations, enabling them to take measures to enhance processes and preserve resources. As a result of these practices, the company has achieved both economic and operational benefits while reducing its environmental footprint.

CHALLENGE

The challenge was to unify data from different systems that improved efficiency in stores but operated in isolation. Upon analyzing the data, the company found opportunities to adjust parameters in systems such as refrigeration, thus enhancing efficiency. This was achieved through centralized data collection using IoT sensors to support decision-making.

S2G Energy Solution

  • More than 45 energy sensors and an ultrasonic IoT water sensor were installed to track real-time resource consumption
  • The integration, centralization, and standardization of data from diverse systems were achieved, enabling optimal utilization of information
  • Implementation of strategies to optimize resource consumption, including alerts during non-operational hours and demand spikes. Additionally, a gradual start-up of equipment is employed to prevent overloads and ensure continuous and efficient operation

Results

  • Thanks to our saving strategies, we achieved a 6% optimization in energy consumption
  • We managed to reduce maximum power and peak by 11% through staggered start-up of equipment and efficient management during peak demand hours
  • Adjustments were made to the refrigeration control systems aiming to decrease their overall environmental impact
